New York’s Dorrance Dance aims to honor tap dance’s uniquely beautiful history in a new and dynamically compelling context, not by stripping the form of its tradition, but by pushing it: rhythmically, aesthetically and conceptually. Street, club and experimental dance forms – all of which are American dreams – awake to the sound of furious rhythms, and find their boundaries missing. Tap dance, America’s most long-standing indigenous jazz vernacular, is here to receive its due.
Michelle Dorrance has lead her company of all-star dancers to sold-out performances at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Kennedy Center, The Barcelona Tap Festival and more. 2015 has been a huge year for Dorrance including her award as a 2015 MacArthur Genius and her Bessie Award for "The Blues Project". Now, it’s Erie’s turn to be a part of her incredible industry fame and experience the rhythms in a three-part flight of dance: tap blended with house music, tap plunged into blues, and solo acoustic tap. Feel the floors shake in this pulsing and visceral tap spectacular that can only be experienced live!
