Keillor

An Evening with Garrison Keillor

Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center

Tuesday, February 13, 2018 - 7:30 pm

In this intimate solo performance, the acclaimed former host of A Prairie Home Companion shares hilarious anecdotes about growing up in the American Midwest, the people of Lake Wobegon and late-life fatherhood. With a wonderful, dry sense of humor, Garrison Keillor captivates audiences using his unique blend of comedy, class, charisma and wisdom.

Keillor was born in 1942 in Anoka, Minnesota, and began his radio career as a freshman at the University of Minnesota, from which he graduated in 1966. He went to work for Minnesota Public Radio in 1969, and from July 6, 1974 through July 1, 2016, he created and hosted his popular variety show, A Prairie Home Companion, for some 3.5 million listeners on 700 public radio stations coast to coast and beyond. In 2006, Keillor played himself, alongside a cast that included Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin and Kevin Kline in a critically-acclaimed film adaptation of the show, directed by Robert Altman.

His many books include Lake Wobegon Days, The Book of Guys, Pilgrims: A Wobegon Romance, Guy Noir and the Straight Skinny and The Keillor Reader. He is the host of the daily program The Writer’s Almanac and the editor of several anthologies of poetry, most recently, Good Poems: American Places.

Keillor has been honored with Grammy, ACE, and George Foster Peabody awards, the National Humanities Medal and election to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
