Ugandan-born, Austin-based singer-songwriter Jon Muq brings a remarkable story and distinctive sound to the stage. His musical journey began in Kampala, where hearing “We Are the World” awakened a passion that eventually led him to pick up a guitar at age 19. After a video of Muq singing for homeless children in Kampala caught the attention of a Norwegian Cruise Line recruiter, music took him around the world and ultimately to Austin, Texas, which he has called home since 2017.

There, Muq caught the ear of Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, who signed him to Easy Eye Sound and produced his debut album, “Flying Away” (2024). Blending his Ugandan roots with Western pop and folk influences, Muq writes songs shaped by resilience, hope, distance, and the experience of starting over. He has toured throughout the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe, sharing stages with artists including Billy Joel, Van Morrison, Mavis Staples, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Trevor Hall, and Valerie June.
