CURVED AND CARVED: RECENT WORKS IN WOOD FROM THE LAKE ERIE REGION

The stretch of shoreline between the cities of Erie, PA, and Buffalo, NY, is home to the wood artists Karen Ernst (Edinboro, PA), Brian Millspaw (Westfield, NY), and Quincy Coczka (Buffalo, NY). This exhibition brings together a broad range of their creative works in wood, including furniture, carved and shaped containers, and wall-hung sculptural panels created on the lathe. Curves seem to be a prominent connection in the aesthetics of these artists, from the arched backs of Brian’s chairs to the rounded leaf shapes in Karen’s boxes, and the concentric arcs in Quincy’s wall pieces. This exhibition showcases the endless possibilities wood presents as a creative medium. Cummings Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. There will be a public reception on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2027 from 5 to 7 p.m.
